  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup heavy cream

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups butter (cold and cut into chunks)
  • 10 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • ½ cup plus 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Golden star sprinkles
  • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix instructions. In a large bowl, combine vegetable oil, sour cream, heavy cream, eggs, chocolate cake mix, cocoa powder, and espresso powder. Mix until smooth.
  2. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full with batter and bake as directed until a toothpick comes out clean.
  3. For frosting: Beat cold butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until fluffy.
  4. Color half of the frosting green; use piping bags to decorate cupcakes like Christmas trees. Top with sprinkles.
