  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions, bell pepper, celery, and garlic until soft.
  2. Add tomato paste, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, thyme, oregano, and stock. Bring to a simmer and let flavors meld.
  3. Add shrimp to the sauce; cook until they turn pink and opaque (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Finish with hot sauce, salt, black pepper, and fresh parsley. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
