  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 2 cups sliced sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups diced apple
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt (divided)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons rubbed sage (divided)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A sprinkle of nutmeg
  • 2 pounds ground lean turkey
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 3 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups strained tomatoes (or Paleo marinara sauce)
  • 1 to 2 cans kidney beans

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced sweet potatoes, carrots, and diced apple. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add ground turkey to the pot and cook until browned, around 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, and remaining sage and salt. Mix well.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes; stir to combine.
  5. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes until flavors meld together. If using kidney beans, add them during the last few minutes of cooking.
