  • 67 cups medium apples (cored, peeled, and thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp butter (cut into small pieces)
  • Pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, sugars, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Microwave the apple mixture for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust and dot with butter.
  5. Cover with a top crust, seal edges, and cut steam slits.
  6. Sprinkle sugar over the crust before baking.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 450°F then lower temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
