Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the large egg, vanilla extract, and molasses to the creamed mixture. Mix until well combined.
In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sifted cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until blended. Gradually add this dry mixture into your wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
Gently fold in the dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Scoop out tablespoons of dough, roll them into balls, and roll them in granulated sugar. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 10 minutes until set around the edges but still soft in the center.
