- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix pumpkin puree, milk, vanilla, and half the brown sugar. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Pour into greased 8x8-inch dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix in melted butter to form a batter. Spoon batter over pumpkin mixture.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans over the batter. Mix remaining brown sugar with hot water and gently pour over the top without stirring.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
