Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Forms the base of your dough and gives it structure.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar A touch of sweetness helps to balance flavors.
  • 2 teaspoons salt Essential for enhancing taste and controlling fermentation.
  • 1 packet instant yeast The leavening agent that makes the bread rise.
  • 1 cup warm water Activates the yeast effectively.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds moisture and richness to the dough.
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Provides a rich, cheesy flavor that melts beautifully.
  • 2-3 fresh jalapeños Finely diced, adjust according to your spice preference.
  • 3 garlic cloves Minced, infuses the bread with aromatic flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or chives Chopped, adds freshness and color.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Complements the garlic and enhances overall flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter Melted, for brushing to give a beautiful finish to the crust.

Method

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine warm water and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle in instant yeast and let it sit until frothy. In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt before adding yeast mixture along with olive oil.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth.
  3. Let It Rise: Allow the dough to rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Filling: Mix shredded cheddar cheese, diced jalapeños, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and Italian seasoning in a large bowl.
  5. Shape Your Bread: Once risen, punch down the dough on a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle. Spread the cheese filling evenly over the surface before rolling it up tightly.
  6. Final Rise & Bake: Place the rolled dough seam side down in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes before brushing with melted butter and baking at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 35 minutes until golden brown.
