Grilled Cheese Patty Melts

Ingredients
  

For the Patty Melts
  • 1 lb Ground beef 80/20 blend for best flavor
  • 1 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese or cheese of choice
  • 8 slices Bread sourdough or rye recommended
  • 4 tbsp Butter softened for spreading
For Serving
  • 1 cup Pickles sliced, optional
  • 1 cup Ketchup for dipping, optional

Method
 

Prepare the Patties
  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into 4 equal patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to desired doneness.
Assemble the Patty Melts
  1. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  2. Remove patties from skillet and set aside. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. In the same skillet, place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down. Top each with a patty and another slice of cheese.
  4. Cover with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
Grill the Sandwiches
  1. Grill the sandwiches in the skillet for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve hot with pickles and ketchup if desired.
