  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup shredded cheese for topping
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs optional, such as oregano or basil

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, beaten egg, and melted butter.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the shredded cheese until evenly distributed.
Bake the Bread
  1. Pour the dough into a greased loaf pan.
  2. Sprinkle the top with additional shredded cheese and dried herbs if using.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  4. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
