Ingredients

Pie Crust
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water more if needed
Filling and Decoration
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1 large egg for egg wash
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar for glaze
  • 2 tbsp milk for glaze
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract for glaze
  • 1 cup candy eyes for decoration

Method

Make the Pie Crust
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the cold butter and mix until crumbly.
  2. Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together. Divide into two discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Assemble the Hand Pies
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
  2. Cut out hand shapes using a cookie cutter. Place half of the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of Nutella onto the center of each hand shape. Top with another hand shape and seal the edges with a fork.
Bake the Pies
  1. Beat the egg and brush it over the top of each hand pie. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Decorate
  1. In a bowl, mix confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make a glaze. Drizzle over the cooled hand pies to create 'bandages'.
  2. Add candy eyes to the top of each pie for decoration.

These hand pies can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from frozen.
