  • 2 tablespoons water optional for deglazing

Method
 

  1. Peel and slice the onions into thin, uniform pieces for even cooking.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat until melted.
  3. Add the onions and sprinkle with salt, stirring to coat them in the fat.
  4. Cook slowly, stirring every few minutes, for 30 to 45 minutes until deep golden brown.
  5. Add water if needed to deglaze the pan and prevent burning.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool. Store in airtight containers for future use.
