Ingredients

Toffee Mixture
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring for a spooky effect
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Apples
  • 4 medium apples preferably Granny Smith or similar
  • 4 pieces wooden skewers for dipping

Method

Prepare the Apples
  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden skewer into the top of each apple.
  2. Place a baking sheet lined with parchment paper nearby for cooling the toffee apples.
Make the Toffee
  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Do not stir. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
  3. Once the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), remove from heat and quickly stir in red food coloring and vanilla extract.
Dip the Apples
  1. Quickly dip each apple into the hot toffee, swirling to coat evenly. Allow excess to drip off.
  2. Place the coated apples on the prepared baking sheet to cool and harden.
Serve
  1. Once the toffee has hardened, your Poison Toffee Apples are ready to serve! Enjoy your spooky treat.
