Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter for cooking
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. In a skillet over medium-low heat, add a tablespoon of butter and sliced onions. Cook for 20-25 minutes until golden and caramelized. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Chill until ready to use.
  3. Form the ground beef into 4 oval patties, season with salt and pepper. Cook in a skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side. Set aside.
  4. Spread secret sauce on one side of each bread slice. Layer with cheese, beef patty, onions, and another slice of cheese. Top with another bread slice.
  5. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook sandwiches 3-4 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted. Serve hot.

Notes
