Layering and Baking
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes evenly using a mandoline or sharp knife.
- Warm the heavy cream in a saucepan with minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Simmer gently.
- Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15-20 minutes until golden.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing and better flavor.
