  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 5 ounces red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  3. Add egg yolk and vanilla extract; mix until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just blended.
  5. Roll dough into balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place on prepared baking sheets. Press your thumb into each ball to create an indentation.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Allow cooling on wire racks.
  7. For the icing, combine powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup, and food coloring in a medium bowl until smooth. Dip cooled cookies into icing and top with sprinkles.
