  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 4 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing it with melted butter.
  2. Sprinkle half of the white sugar evenly in the bottom of the pan and layer with sliced strawberries.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs until frothy. Gradually add melted butter and vanilla extract; mix well.
  4. Stir in buttermilk until fully incorporated.
  5. In another bowl, combine self-rising flour and remaining white sugar. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter over the arranged strawberries in the pan.
  7. Bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before flipping onto a serving plate.
